Florida Police Exams
Candidates for law enforcement positions in Florida must pass the pre-employment test known commonly as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Basic Abilities Test (LE BAT). This police officer selection test is the CJBAT by the company IOS. There are separate CJBAT versions for corrections and law enforcement. The FBAT is no longer used.
Passing the CJBAT is a state requirement to get accepted to the academy. Some agencies use other exams in addition to the CJBAT. Orlando PD, Melbourne PD, Ft. and Ocoee also use the Frontline National exam. The order of these exams varies - sometimes CJBAT is early in the process, and at other times, it is given after other preliminary screenings.
CJBAT test administration is usually outsourced to the online testing company named Pearson VUE. Applicants will register for the test and receive their results via Pearson VUE.
As of July 1, 2022, most agencies allow waivers to the CJBAT requirement if you are a veteran or if you hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
Applicants should still check directly with their targeted agency to make sure they understand the local hiring process.
Don’t overlook Federal law enforcement job opportunities.
