Port Authority Police Officer Test Prep

The Port Authority Police Exam is the written test used to screen new candidates applying for the position of Police Officer in the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD).

The mission of the PAPD of New York and New Jersey is to provide protective services to the users of New York/New Jersey airports, seaports, bridges, tunnels, bus terminal, train service, the World Trade Center, and all other properties belonging to the Port Authority. To provide these services, PAPD Police Officers must perform essential job tasks that require proficiency in deductive reasoning, problem sensitivity, and other vital factors.

To ensure that Police Officer applicants possessed the required professional abilities, a written test was developed, validated, and implemented. The written test assesses the aptitude needed to perform essential police officer tasks. The PAPD test is different from the NYPD exam and the NYS Civil Service exam.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Officer Written Examination will be administered via computer at PSI/Performance Assessment Network (PAN) Test Centers across New York and New Jersey to applicants selected to proceed in the evaluation process. Candidates are encouraged to prepare for the exam using the PAPD Test Prep course described below.

The Port Authority Police Officer Written Examination is up to 2 hours and 25 minutes long. The computer-based test will begin with a 25-minute observation/memorization period, where test-takers study some photographs. You will then have 2 hours to answer the 70 questions about following test topics are included:

  3. Inductive Reasoning
